Songzanlin Monastery in Shangri-La County, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple complex in Yunnan Province. Belonging to the Yellow Hat (Gelug) Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, it is the most important monastery worshiped at by Tibetans who live in Yunnan, Sichuan, and other Tibetan areas in south central China

Dukezong Ancient Town provides visitors with an authentic view of Tibetan culture and is a welcome reprieve from the busy goings-on of the big city.

Guishan temple features a gilded prayer wheel covered with depictions of Buddhist deities and symbols that is so big it takes at least 20 people to spin!

7km northwest of Shangri-la you’ll find the seasonal Napa Sea, surrounded by a large grassy meadow that pushes right up to the mountains. Between September and March it attracts a myriad of rare species, including the black-necked crane. Outside of these months, the lake largely dries up and you can see high numbers of yaks and cattle grazing.
